2. CJR – Memorial Tournament

Auch in diesem Jahr haben wir wieder am Ciarra Joy Rhodes-Memorial Tournament teilgenommen. Das Turnier findet statt, um auf das Thema Suizid hinzuweisen, aus der Tabuzone herauszuholen – und darüber sowie Suizidprävention zu sprechen.

Ich fasse mich an der Stelle kurz: wir sind 12. von 12 Mannschaften geworden – was unsere Leistung nicht wirklich widerspiegelt. Nur knapp mussten wir uns 2x den Woodpeckers und 1x DD geschlagen geben, Mainz haben wir geschlagen, gegen die amerikanischen Mannschaften MS und BNB hatten wir keine Chance – und beim entscheidenden Spiel gegen die Raptors beim Double Elimination haben wir uns nicht von unserer Glanzseite gezeigt – da war es wohl noch zu früh am Morgen.

Aber hier ging es auch nicht um den Platz, sondern um Charity. Wir haben von unseren privaten Sponsoren (Freunde, Familie, Arbeitskollegen) für jeden Run, den wir erzielt haben, Geld bekommen, das dann wiederum an Dusty und Tina überging, um die drei Charity-Aktivitäten (das Hira-Projekt, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention und AGUS e.V. (Angehörige um Suizid)) zu unterstützen. Insgesamt sind so mit unseren 68 Runs und 3 Homerun ungefähr 430.-€ zusammen gekommen. Darauf sind wir mächtig stolz und danken unseren Unterstützern.

RML Spieltag in Darmstadt

Am Sonntag, den 17.5. sind wir nach Darmstadt zu den Whippets gereist und haben dort gegen sie und die Marburg Knights gespielt.

Scheinbar waren wir alle irgendwie nicht richtig wach und kamen nicht so ganz in Schwung, jedenfalls sind und die Darmstädter in jedem Inning davon gezogen, positionierten ihre Hits und erzielten ihre Runs, während wir einige Runden keinen Run nach Hause bringen konnten. Im letzten Inning, open Inning gab es dann 18 Runs aufzuholen. Das hat uns scheinbar motiviert – aber nach vieren war dann auch Schluss. Am Ende stand es 12:24, wohlverdient für die Whippets.

Im nächsten Spiel wurden die Whippets von den Marburgern knapp mit drei Runs geschlagen.

Da es uns gelungen war, die Marburger beim Round Robin in Aschaffenburg zu schlagen, stellte sich die Frage, ob wir das noch einmal hinbekommen würde. Und – kleine Fanfare an dieser Stelle – es ist uns gelungen. Ein ausgeglichenes Spiel bis zum Ende, das wir zwar mit drei Runs (Endstand: 18:21 für die Flyers) Vorsprung nach Hause bringen konnten, aber das dritte Aus hat etwas auf sich warten lassen, Bases waren geladen … eine Situation mit viel Potenzial, um die Nerven zu verlieren. Haben wir aber nicht, haben sie behalten.

Mit dabei waren: Alex (EH), Andy (RF), Christian B. (1st), Hot Dog (SS), Jana (SS), Jogi (P), Julia (LF, LC), Lenchen (LF, LC, RC), Manfred (RF, C), Micha (LC, C), Nick (LF), Sabine (2nd), Shawana (2nd).

2nd Wooden Cleats Tourney in Nieuwegein

Great job this weekend Flyers. We went 3 and 5 in the round robin games beating the Raptors, Braves and Lakers. We lost by one run to the DD and we lead against the Dutch National Team through the whole game and then lost by one run. We played our last game against the Braves for 5th or 6th place. It was a back and fourth battle for the game to be tied and had to go to extra innings. We lost in the extra inning 4 – 0. Everyone played their heart out and played very well. The Flyers left Holland with the 6th Place trophie. For the 2 players that got hurt, take it easy and rest up and get better.

Once again, i would like to thank all the team members that went to the tournament and for all the ones that didn’t thank you for supporting us. This is the best group of people i have had the pleasure of working with and coaching. Watching you guys play and getting better and better every time you play gives me a great feeling as a coach.
